Update
As you might have heard, there are some exciting new changes to the Art Clay curriculum certification courses which aim to unite the standard across the whole of Europe. We hope that the following information will clarify what is going on.
What has happened to the Art Clay Guild UK?
The Guild was set up as a combined effort by us, the UK Distributors, several years ago as a way to further Art Clay education and to be a central point for certifications and assessments.

In more recent years the Guild was run by a committee of Art Clay users rather than the Distributors. Earlier this year Aida asked the guild to work together with the Distributors on the certification procedure. The Guild declined and instead chose to hand the certification back to Aida and the Distributors.

We’re very excited about managing this process and being more involved again. This will help the UK education to stay in line with the rest of Europe, and make it easier for us to offer support, give incentives, and promote you to a better effect.
What will happen to Certifications now?
The UK Educational Distributors are now responsible for managing the certification process, including the issue of certificates, and will form part of a team passing judgment on the final assessment pieces. This is to come into line with the standard practice in all other countries across the world and goes back to what we used to do in the past in the UK too.
How will the new Curriculum affect current teachers?
If you have a Level 2/Senior certification (you’ve done and passed your three independent certification pieces) already, some of the projects you teach will be different from 1 January 2013. The exact projects will be announced on 1 November 2012, giving you time to prepare and practice.

Your certification will NOT be downgraded in any way. Later next year there will be an additional teaching module available, which we would advise you to take. However, this is optional and will not affect your existing certificate.
Do I need to do anything?
Yes. Unfortunately, the database which we received from the UK Guild is not as detailed as we would like. We also feel we’ve lost touch with our instructors over the years, and would love to know a little more about you – like, do you teach regularly or not at all, do you offer other classes apart from certifications?

To help us create this database, which will be used to promote you if you wish, we’ve set up an online form which we would ask you to take a few moments to complete. Please click here.
Where can I go for further information?
You may find it useful to visit one of the numerous information sites that are now available. We’re adding information as it becomes available. These were setup in an effort to standardise practices across Europe and to offer Art Clay workers as much information as possible:

www.artclayworld.co.uk
UK information site run by the UK Distributors - this will be the central point of information when it comes to education, certifications and assessments in the UK

www.artclayworld.eu
European site with information and links to EU Distributors

www.facebook.com/artclayworld
Art Clay World Europe’s facebook page

We really look forward to working more closely with you again in the future,

Best wishes
The UK Art Clay Distributors.

NEW ART CLAY CURRICULUM - FAQ (click here)

Will the new Level 1 still be three days and the Level 2 be four days long?
There will be no set number of days for each stage to be taught over. However, Level 1 will still cover 6 projects so 3 days sounds reasonable. Level 2 will be reduced to 4 projects but with many more technical aspects/skills to cover, therefore, it will probably also run over 3 days. It is envisaged that the teaching certificate will be held over 1-2 days.
Will there still be a requirement for a six month delay between students taking Level 1 and Level 2 and will there be a mandatory time lag between Level 2 and Level 3?
There is no specific length of time required between students taking Level 1 and 2 but there must be at least 6 months' time lapse between Level 1 and the submission of the 3 evaluation pieces.
Will Senior Instructors be able to teach the new Teaching Diploma or will this have to be taken somewhere central?
The Teaching Diploma is still being finalised by Aida in conjunction with EU Distributors. Further information will be released in due course.
Do you envisage a change in the cost of the levels and if so are they likely to be more or less expensive?
Material costs for Level 1 will be roughly the same. Level 2 will be reduced as there will only be 4 projects, probably taught over 3 days. However, as some additional skills will need to be demonstrated, some additional equipment/materials will be required.
Will new kits be available for the new projects?
Materials lists for each project will be made available so that each Tutor can assemble their own kits. This will help keep costs down where only a small quantity of a product is required and can therefore be split between several students.
